Pre-K!

Today was Lucas' first day of PreK!  He's going to the same church preschool he went to last year, only it will be four mornings a week instead of three as he did last year.  Our decision to send him back to PreK was a pretty easy one.  We decided that we'd like to keep things as close to the same for him until we move as we could.  2012 brought SO MUCH transition for him - two new siblings, a new state, new church, new school, new friends - and knowing that the end of 2013 will bring all of those same things, except for new siblings, we opted for a little bit of consistency for him.  Little did we know how much would be the same!  Because of increased interest in PreK and less interest in 3 year old preschool, they've added a second PreK class this year and reduced one 3 year old class.  What that meant for us is that Lucas will be in exactly the same classroom he was in last year.  They hired a new teacher for the PreK class, but the assistant who was in Lucas' preschool class last year is in his room again this year, too!  (We love her to pieces, so I couldn't have been more happy about that.)  We had his open house yesterday.  Last year, I really appreciated that morning, because it gave Lucas a chance to play in his class room and see some of the faces he'd be seeing all year, which helped ease the anxiety for both of us. Yesterday it was just like old hat for Lucas, despite new classmates and a new teacher, and it made me feel really calm, too, to see him interacting with his new teacher in such a calm way.

This morning, as we were walking across the parking lot, I was remembering last year when he told me he was starting to feel a little bit nervous.  I asked him this morning if he felt nervous at all.  "Nope!" he exclaimed.  "Just super excited."  So, there you go!  His day was "GREAT!" and I'm so thankful that he's excited to be back at school and loving the little world they've got over there.

Each child gets a bucket to decorate for bringing things to and from school. Lucas chose stars to go on his bucket this year.

He's pretty proud of himself for decorating with all those stars.  He thinks they look like "space fireworks!"

Love these kids, even if we can't get a good picture of all of us at once.  *grin*

  1. I can't get over how much Lucas has grown. Also, "space fireworks" is really spot on. Colorful stars. Of course! And I love the pic of you with the kids. Just love it. -KarePan
